1976 - 1983 : Studies of physics (subsidiary subjects: mathematics and philosophy) at the University of Zurich, Switzerland.

1983 : Diploma in experimental physics; diploma thesis: "Pulse Shape Discrimination of Neutron and Photon Events in Big NaI(Tl)-Crystals"

1983 - 1987 : Graduate studies at the physics institute of the University of Zurich and the Swiss Institute for Nuclear Research (SIN). Advisor: Prof. P. Truöl

1987 : Ph.D. in Physics; thesis: "Radiative Muon Capture in Nuclei"

 

Professional Experience

1987 - 1988 : Postdoctoral position at the physics institute of the University of Zurich.

1988 - 1990 : Postdoctoral position at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA. Materials science with MeV ion beams.

Since 1990 : Research associate at the laboratory for ion beam physics of the Paul Scherrer Institut and ETH Zurich. 

 

Research Interests

Materials analysis and modification by keV and MeV ion beams.
